Asam Hall Freising
Project: Asam Hall, theatre and concert hall, Freising, Germany
Architects: Anton Mang, Christoph Wollmann
Acoustic: Müller-BBM
Historical Baroque gem: After more than 300 years, the listed Asam building in the heart of Freising’s old town has undergone complete renovation for the first time and, after seven years of meticulous restoration work, reopened as a vibrant centre for art, culture and social gatherings. The architects received the Association of German Architects (BDA) prize for Bavaria, among other awards, for this challenging construction project.
Heart of the building: Hans Georg Asam, one of Germany’s most important church painters, created the ceiling painting and magnificent fresco cycle in the Asam Hall in 1709. The original ceiling of today’s theatre and concert hall was beautifully restored during the renovation work.
State-of-the-art technology: The Asam Hall was fitted with new seating and the room acoustics have been optimised to the highest standards. rohi’s SHAKE fabric in an elegant, shimmering special colour was chosen for the seat covers to match the historic Baroque ceiling. With devotion and respect for the rich history of the building, a magnificent ambience has been created.
